RNSA Windsurfers Welcome New Joiners
Windsurfing has been a part of the RNSA since its inception with the active RNSA Windsurfing members looking to encourage and facilitate participation in this fun, exhilarating and social sport. Windsurfing remains a popular national watersport with disciplines such as Freestyle, Freeride, Wave, Course Racing, Speed sailing, Slalom and recreational, with something suitable for a variety of ages and abilities. The RNSA wish to encourage all aspects of Windsurfing by members of the Naval Service, in order to provide better awareness and access to this demanding but rewarding adventure watersport.
The RNSA Windsurfers also aim to assist and develop interested individuals to compete in National and Inter-Service events, either individually or as part of a team. The Inter-Services Windsurfing programme currently provides for Wave, Speed and Slalom/Course racing, but the RNSA are able to support sailors in other disciplines - just ask!
The RNSA Windsurfing Instructors have introduced new windsurfers to the sport through the RYA Accredited Start Windsurfing Course (5 days) and there is a plan to provide Start course for the 2015/16 season as well as some single session Grass Roots taster sessions for those wishing to dip a toe in the water without commitment. Details will be listed in the Events page and the Senior Windsurfing Instructor contact details are on the committee page.
The RNSA plan to provide access to equipment for those completing Start courses or existing beginner windsurfers to bridge the equipment gap from beginner to the more exciting and challenging equipment, contact any member of the committee if you are interested.
You will find area Windsurfing Representatives listed on the Committee page who would be delighted to provide advice on where and when to sail, on local events and will probably join you on the water. We also manage a Facebook group to keep windsurfers connected with up to date news, to find out what is going on and where the next sail and beer/curry is likely to occur.
The RNSA kindly sponsor Windsurfing Development camps for beginners through to advanced sailors, as well as funding Inter-service and National competitive events. There will also be a weekend festival at Calshot Watersports Centre in summer 16 as well as some smaller events in the Portsmouth area. We aim to have the 2016 programme published by Dec 15.
So, if you are interested in starting windsurfing, thinking of getting back into the sport or keen to show off your Spocks and Vulcans to an appreciative group, get in touch with any of the RNSA Windsurfers
