A healthy turnout of 13 yachts gathered in the sunshine and a cool northerly breeze to contest the second race of the Spring Series.
Sunshine the SOOD wary of the probability of the breeze fading set a short course of a broad kite reach to Kemps Quay, a gybe onto a white sail reach and a beat with the tide to the finish. The slower boat start at 1830 saw a few over eager boats recalled as they under estimated the strength of the building tide and with Sunshine positioned perfectly on the line transit they were all identified and recalled.
The second start had Tinker T, Electron V and Sunshine all within feet of each other on the line on the gun with Tinker T just taking the advantage as she was inside boat at the first mark. Sunshine used her better downwind speed to get to the gybe mark leading the group with Tinker T and Electron V neck and neck just astern. A tactical covering beat ensued with Tinker T struggling to stay ahead of the higher pointing Electron but which she managed successfully, crossing the finish only a couple of boat lengths ahead. When the numbers were crunched, Tinker T took the honours but only seconds separated the first 3 boats.
