RNSA(P) Wednesday Spring Series Race 7

Portsmouth - 11 May 17 Offshore

Wow! Yet another ideal sailing evening with a south easterly of 8-14 knots, cool but with sunshine, what's not to like.

With a no-show from Thunderflash the scheduled SOOD (I just wish I knew in advance), Tinker T took on the task at the eleventh hour and set a course of a dead run against an increasing east going tide to Browndown, a beat to North Sturbridge and another kite leg home. The 2 starts were combined.
The start line was a key element with options of starting close into Gilkicker out of the tide but on port gybe which meant working out into the tide eventually or being a little further out and working into Stokes Bay on starboard gybe. The 2 lead boats off the line, Sunshine and Tinker T both selected different options with Tinker T opting for control on starboard gybe. Sunshine almost crossed her bow on port - but not quite and a hastily executed frantic gybe to keep clear saw 3 boat lengths lost. Tinker T held the lead into Browndown which was now a tidal gate, but not by much.
Large commercial vessels passing in the channel kept the fleet on its toes on the beat to N Sturbridge and a reduced and backed breeze slowed the back markers on the leg home. Sunshine with her better pace took line honours but TinkerT going well all evening took the handicap win in both IRC and NHC.
It was good to see two of the BAR team on Spirit of Kudu keeping their hand in whilst Ben is away in Bermuda - alas the ringers failed to bring home the bacon. Good Luck Ben in 2 weeks time!
