Windsurfing Start Courses

Thorney Island Army Sail Training Centre Windsurfing

RNSA Windsurfers will be running RYA Start courses to introduce beginners to Windsurfing at Thorney Island near Portsmouth and at Weymouth through the Heron Windsurfing Club.

The Navy windsurfing team will be running a series of training courses throughout 2019 allowing Service personnel to learn the fundamentals of windsurfing, or if already proficient to further develop their skills. All courses take place at Thorney Island Water Sports Centre, a well-equipped Army facility near Portsmouth. The courses follow the standard Royal Yachting Association (RYA) syllabus including a mixture of shore-based simulator sessions, on water coaching, windsurfing theory and safety guidance. Thorney Island Water Sports Centre is an accredited RYA Centre. All RN windsurfing instructors are RYA trained and first aid qualified. Power boat safety cover will be available throughout the sessions. On successful completion of a course, the relevant RYA Start or Intermediate Windsurfing certificate will be awarded.

Subject to weather, instructor availability and levels of participants, courses are planned for 1-2 and 29-30 Jun,13-14 and 20-21 Jul, 31 Aug –1 Sep and 21-22 Sep.
