RNSA Muster September 2012

Clyde - 21 Oct 12 General

Through the Kyles to Portavadie.

The first weekend of September saw 8 yachts and around 30 crew take part in the first RNSA Muster on the Clyde for several years. The event was especially poignant as the event organiser, and motivator of much at RNSA Clyde, had tragically drowned at Holy Loch only weeks earlier. Poor weather on the Friday with a sharp chop running up from the Cumbrae gap saw a staggered arrival at Rothesay. Most yachts had battled down from Rhu and the Gareloch although one had popped over from Largs and another, the smallest by far, bravely run up from Troon. A moving early morning memorial service was held for Jim, before departure and an informal race up through the beautiful Kyles of Bute to Portavadie. Only the Branch Captain took the race seriously and he arrived several hours later than most -apparently we were all supposed to go around Inchmarnock. A fine banquet BBQ and subsequent socialising rounded off the Saturday night and in good style. It is hoped to repeat the Muster next year and to increase the turnout, so if interested please contact the committee.
