Calais Rally 2019

East Coast - 02 Jun 19 Cruising

The Little Ships Club yet again prove great hosts:

Another year, another Calais Rally! Some late cancellations following engine, health and work problems resulted in three RNSA boats attending and a two lady shore crew (Vivien Ryser and Val Allwright) via the ferry to join the Little Ship Club, Maldon Little Ship Club and Royal Temple Yacht Club.

The RNSA boats were Big G (Gordon Hastie), 40 Love (Jonathan Coone) and Athene (Peter Broadley). This year the LSC Diamond Jubilee Shield went to Benfleet YC for longest passage divided by waterline length made by any YC attending the Rally.

Saturday afternoon saw a full pontoon in glorious sunshine for the apparently never ending 'Beer Call' followed by about 75 sitting down for dinner at the Circle Amical Maritime. The Hon Treasurer 'lurked' Peter Broadley at the last minute to respond on behalf of RNSA to the LSC welcome and he raised a toast to DDay 75.

The good weather of Saturday turned into cloud and wind for Sunday's Bubbly Recuperative Party. Later in the day 40 Love departed in a SW 5 to 6 for a fast passage to Ramsgate and onwards to the River Orwell, with Athene departing in calmer weather on Monday towards Normandy. Big G remained in port for some 'jobs' before departing on a trip towards Portugal.
