Central - 03 Jun 19 Offshore

A weekend of intense sailing in the Solent as the fleet of 12 boats competed in IRC class 1

The RN Offshore women's team won third place in the WOKC this week end. The first day saw champagne sailing in the Solent with the breeze building to 15kts. Skippered by Kathryn Jay, helmed by Alex Pickles with Fiona Cook as tactician/navigator, Mary Sutherland on main, Emma Barry and Lois Holman and Katrina Duxbury in the cockpit and Jennifer Cory, Kerry Marsden and Heather Tarr on bow and mast. The crew were put through their paces against some tough competition from top professional women. The short start line added to the excitement and the practise put into the drills on the Friday afternoon paid off. By the end of the first day and three races, JJT sat in 7th place on the leader board.
The second day saw racing in breezes gusting up to 20kts plus, the team worked really hard in testing conditions and managed to secure two seconds which was just enough to move JJT up the board to 3rd place. Many congratulations to the team! Our thanks to Hamble River Sailing Club for putting on the event.
