RNSA(P) Wednesday Summer Series race 4

Portsmouth - 20 Jun 19 Offshore

The Solent wind models were yet again found wanting, most saying around 8 knots of westerly ish breeze at 1800. A fine south westerly of 12-15 knots was what greeted the fleet at Gilkicker however, much better than expected.

With a Trojan no show, Tinker T once more took on the mantle of SOOD and set a beat into the east going tide to Mother Bank, a further fetch to SE Ryde Middle and a run home. In the first start Danegeld , Moonfleet and Crazy Horse pushing the line transit hard led towards Darling Associates and onward, the fleet opting to stay on the mainland shore before attemting to cross the tide to Mother Bank. In the second start 5 mins later Tinker T and Assassin led the charge to windward closely followed by Jolly Jack Tar and Option, this fleet opting to cross the tide almost immediately in search of the slacker water towards Mother Bank. This appeared the best route as the leaders had caught most of the first start yachts by the time the windward mark was reached. With a tidal gate at SE Ryde Middle it was again a big boat race although Danegeld, charging down the run with her huge masthead kite was unfortunate to miss out on 2nd in IRC by a mere one second.

A varied choice of food was on offer at HSSC by the cheery galley team and was much appreciated by the hungry crews.

RESULTS: The author very much regrets a major glitch with his PC prevents the results being published in normal format, a rebuild effort is now required to get back on track. The IRC results follow but unfortunately the NHC will take a bit longer. Your patience is appreciated!
