RNSA(P) Fleet Commander’s Cup Race Report

Portsmouth - 26 Jun 19 Dinghies

Dinghy racing in Portsmouth harbour

This afternoon saw 6 RNSA(P) sailors competing for the Fleet Commander’s Cup in Fusion dinghies from Whale Island. Race Officer Ken Bichard ran 4 races to the West of the Island in a gusty F3-5 Easterly breeze. Glorious sunshine accompanied some excellent racing, with constant place changing across the fleet and several of the boats in contention for 1st place overall.

There were a few capsizes along the way but everyone came off the water smiling. Dom Jacobs (DNTL) came out on top with 2 bullets followed closely by RC(Dinghies) Andy Wood (FOST) in 2nd and Matt Irwin (MWS) in 3rd. We were honoured to have the Fleet Commander himself, VAdm Jerry Kyd, present his namesake Cup at the prize giving. The Admiral gave some encouraging words to the sailors and support staff about the importance of sailing and wider sea sense in the RN.

Our thanks go to Race Officer Ken Bichard, safety boat crew Bill and Dave and to Lee Bichard and all the RNSC staff who keep the boats in excellent condition.

There are several more races in which you can get involved this season. All of the details are on the RNSA website and on Facebook - email to book one of the RNSA owned craft at RNSC or bring your own boat.
