RNSA(P) Wednesday Summer Series race 7

Portsmouth - 11 Jul 19 Offshore

Summers evening sailing as it is supposed to be. A balmy 8-13 knots and T shirts and flip flops for the crews (though some not yet trusting the warmth to last opted for full foul weather gear.)

Sunshine, the SOOD opted for a slightly more challenging course than usual of a beat to Mother Bank, a shy kite reach to Browndown followed by a gybe and a further reach to Stokes Bay Central, a beat back to Browndown and a kite reach home - with an option to shorten if the wind faded, thrown in for good measure.
With four boats in each start the line was not crowded but with Happy Apple leading the charge in the first start all the drama occurred in start two. With a raging west going tide and Sunshine to leeward of Tinker T, TT was coaxed over the line into an OCS position at the gun. Returning against the tide was painfully slow but eventually TT re-started and began to chase the fleet rapidly disappearing down tide but upwind. By the windward mark the gap had decreased on Sunshine but Jolly Jack Tar was on a roll and opening with every minute that passed. With the addition of a true tidal gate at Stokes Bay Central the faster boats soon extended on the slower ones and that plus perfect downwind angles for JJT's big asy kite saw her take line honours and corrected time wins in both IRC and NHC. Tinker T meanwhile had the last laugh in IRC beating Sunshine by a mere 4 seconds on handicap to take second place.
With only 2 races to go and a further discard to kick in the battle for honours is hotting up!
