BYC Relaunch - Update

Steady progress is being made in re-invigorating and updating the BYC. We now have an active committee comprising interested parties from all corners of the College, supported by yachtsmen from the local community who are all keen to maintain a high profile for sailing in BRNC. The Constitution has been rewritten to reflect the changes that have taken place since the Club was last fully operational and work to produce and maintain a full calendar of activities on and off the water continues apace.

The College yachts and dinghies are regularly involved in activities on the water, both locally and further afield. The yachts have taken part in regattas in Tor Bay and regular racing with The Royal Dart Yacht Club. There are plans to enter them in the 2019 Dartmouth Royal Regatta using URNU and RNR crews as well as students, College staff and BYC members. Two STCs and a BYC yacht sailed to Guernsey in June to support Petty Officer Phil Slade’s Bosun Challenge which, although curtailed by adverse weather, raised over £1800 for the RN and RM Charity. On the dinghy scene the College team won the Holt Cup earlier in the season.

There is an active social scene with involvement in Freshers’ Fairs, “At Homes” with local sailing clubs and the reinstatement of the annual dinner, which was a great success this year.

Work is in hand to update the guidance to BYC and RNSA members on the use of the College buoys and boats and to review our membership database.
We are hoping to re engage as many past members as possible to help maintain this new momentum and would love to hear from BA and RNSA members who have been involved with the BYC before and who would like to renew their affiliation, and any other eligible people who are interested in joining.
