RNSA(P) Wednesday Autumn Series race 2

Portsmouth - 29 Aug 19 Offshore

The rain laden dark clouds loomed over the western half of the Isle of Wight but fortunately for the small Autumn Series fleet they only produced shifting gusts in the eastern Solent not wetness.

With the big guns of Sunshine and Jolly Jack Tar away in Dartmouth and Assassin preparing for sale, Tinker T became the scratch boat. Option the SOOD set an interesting course of a beat to Kemps Quay across a fast east bound tidal stream, a run to RAYC with another beat to N Sturbridge and a shy kite reach home. Clearly a challenge to finish without Nav lights!

Tinker T taking her scratch boat status seriously, led off the start line and settled on a long port tack across the Solent with the tide on her lee bow. By the time she bore away and hoisted her kite at Kemps Quay her lead was virtually unassailable leaving the two Sigma 33's and Danegeld to fight for the other podium places.

With the race for the slower end of the fleet taking an hour and forty minutes it was a relief for the hungry crews that the very patient HSSC staff were still around to feed them when they finally got in. Very fine fare it was too with a great variety on offer including a fantastic home made pie (for the lucky early ones) and an equally nice beef stroganoff!
