It will be a spectator event with very limited opportunities to interact with the Little Ships. Given the age and size and number of Little Ships expected, participants and spectators will need to maintain separation.

May 2020 is the 80th anniversary of the evacuation of Dunkirk. Members of the British Expedition force and French colleagues were evacuated from the Calais and Dunkirk region.
Oft described as the Miracle of Dunkirk. 338226 Allied troops evacuated.
Churchill referred to a colossal military disaster, saying "the whole root and core and brain of the British Army” had been stranded at Dunkirk and seemed about to perish or be captured. Operation Dynamo commenced 338226 Allied troops evacuated. The English Channel rarely behaved for very long. For nine days the Channel was a mill pond. Calm sea was essential.
Every five years the Association of Dunkirk Little Ships (ADLS) make a commemorative return. Each year more of the remaining Little Ships are being refitted and re fettled to make the crossing with RN and RNLI escorts.

Outline programme. Assemble in Dover. Thursday 21st May, cross to Dunkirk, weather permitting 22nd & 23rd fall back days. Pontoon party adj. to Bassion de la Marine.
(ADLS Return leaves Ramsgate 21st & returns 25th May) Service at Beach Memorial.23rd. Dockside service 24th.

Visitors may wish to go north from Dunkirk. The annual Oostende at Anchor festival is scheduled for 29 May to 1 June. Traditional craft, beer festival, sea shanties etc. See for more details. Berthing recommended at the top of the harbour Royal Ostend Yacht Club (RYCO)
