BRNC win the Holt Cup!

RC (Dinghies) - 02 Mar 16 Dinghies

BRNC won all but one of their races last weekend to secure the Holt Cup, which took place at HMS Raleigh for the first time.

Eleven teams turned up at Jupiter Point to compete in the annual Royal Navy Team Racing Championships for the Holt Cup. Travelling from all over the country, including one team all the way from Edinburgh, the competitors were met with a strong easterly breeze to test their skills against one another.

Traditionally sailed at BRNC, this year saw a change following an invite from HMS Raleigh's Commanding Officer, Captain Rob Bellfield, keen to show what Raleigh had to offer. Also new was the use of Topaz Argo dinghies, on loan from the Combined Cadet Force, which made a great change to the traditional Bosun dinghy.

With the teams split into two flights they completed two full round robins before the top teams went forward to battle it out in the finals. Despite not having lost a single race all weekend, Eastern A fought hard but could not manage to get the upper hand over BRNC who secured the win with a 3-0 victory.

A couple of the teams included a number of Royal Navy phase 1 trainees from both Raleigh and Dartmouth who got their first glimpse of what RN sailing and the RNSA has to offer.

The final top four places were as follows:

1st - BRNC
2nd - Eastern A
3rd - Eastern B
4th - URNU A
