RNSA(P) Wednesday Autumn Series Race 1

Portsmouth - 24 Aug 17 Offshore

A fine evening to commence the Autumn Series with the wind for once doing what was forecast. The turnout of 9 yachts to contest the series was commendable with congratulations to Kurketrekker for extracting herself from the mud of the marina at low water springs.

The SOOD, Tinker T set a windward - leeward course with the beat to Mackley Van Oord against the tide; a boat speed testing leg rather than a tactical one, nonetheless several boats managed to overstand the mark whilst trying to evade the tide by closing the Island shore. The battle royal between the two Sigma 33's Spirit of Kudu and Happy Apple continued with Happy Apple showing her pace upwind had not slowed since the end of the Summer Series. In the second start Sunshine took a while to overhaul Tinker T eventually doing so as the yachts tacked for the windward mark however despite better downwind speed she was not able to save her time.

The early edition of the NHC provisional results has been updated to reflect the NHC TCF's at the end of the Summer Series. The software had defaulted to 'Yacht of the Year' derived TCF's which introduced anomalies. Apologies to Happy Apple who thought they had won.
