Progress restoring Sir Alex Rose yacht Lively Lady

RC (Cruising) - 07 Jul 18 General

Earlier plans to create a world record placed on hold. sail past also on hold. Plans for sail past may still be on the cards. 28th July ? Sorry we cannot be more definite.

Mark Smith, Chairman of Around and Around commented: “It is with regret that we are postponing the largest human image world record attempt until later in the year. Since we set our sites on this ambitious project last year a new record has been registered with the Guinness Book of Records and independently verified. The new record has now been published online, but in short the Indian International School in the UAE, now hold the record for the largest human image of a boat with a total of 4,882 people. This is clearly a substantial increase on the number achieved at the Southampton Boat Show in 2016 and surpasses the 1,000+ we were anticipating.."

“In consultation with the other trustees we have regrettably decided to postpone our record attempt, reorganising this record attempt for later in the year when we hope to have the numbers to challenge this."

It is assumed the anticipated Southsea sail past will not happens weekend 7/8 July 2018.Latest up date from the organisers:-
The 50th anniversary of Alec's voyage which by the main went largely un- noticed. But we have a mega plan to put that right. On the 16th Lively Lady comes out of the shed and gets her masts etc fitted. A bit of fettling then on Friday 27th she will sit on a mooring opposite the ECA. On the 28th she will set sail for Portsmouth picking up (hopefully) a flotilla of boat who will end up at Port Solent where she will be the start of the recreation of the 30th anniversary of the opening which Sir Alec opened.
