RNSA(P) Wednesday Summer Series race 9

Portsmouth - 26 Jul 18 Offshore

Ideal conditions for the final race of the Summer Series except perhaps for the honking tide greeted the small fleet to contest the final podium places.

Sunshine set the course of a beat into the foul tide to NE Ryde Middle, a kite reach to Browndown and a run home. With 6 competing yachts the starts were combined.
At the start the fleet all headed into the tidal sanctuary of Stokes Bay but the pecking order was soon established based on handicap number and therefore speed to windward, the exception being the equally rated Sigma 33's Happy Apple and Spirit of Kudu with HA holding the early advantage. Key to the race was the lay line out of the bay to NE Ryde Middle and both Sunshine and Tinker T got it spot on, laying the mark within a boat length. However the Sigmas covering each other took a rather more conservative stab at it and a large gap opened up.
Sunshine took full advantage of the tidal gates at the downwind marks and creaming along took the bullet and the series when the numbers were crunched. For the first time since NHC was introduced the podium places were the same for IRC and NHC - Sunshine, Happy Apple, Spirit of Kudu.

The support as ever from Hornet Services Sailing Club has been fantastic and a short Summer hols break now ensues before cudgels are taken up in the Autumn Series which commences on Wednesday 22 August. Roll on!
