RNSA(P) Wednesday Autumn Series race 2

Portsmouth - 30 Aug 18 Offshore

As the crews prepared their boats for the second race of the Autumn Series there were already ominous signs. The steady north westerly which had been blowing at 12 - 14 knots all afternoon subsided to zero.

However on the passage to Gilkicker and the start the breeze steadily increased from the south to a raceable 6 knots. Sunshine the SOOD decided as the boats were gathered anyway to set a short course of a beat in the southerly to Kemp's Quay a broad reach to N Sturbridge and a tighter reach home. As the start gun went the breeze died once again and the small fleet slowly drifted back on the tide - sans Kurketrekker who decided there were better things to do and after a brief hesitancy, went home. After 20 minutes of the breeze of about 1 knot flicking between south and north west the fleet were on the point of following Kurketrekkers lead and going to the pub when a breeze line was spotted moving from the direction of Ryde. Sunshine picked it up first followed by Tinker T and as it steadily built to 9 knots the race was on.
Some nifty footwork to avoid gas tankers and cruise liners followed (did anyone spot which film was playing on the large upper deck screen?) and Sunshine legged it away to take line honours after 20 minutes of parking and 40 minutes of racing. She did not however when the numbers were crunched save her time on Tinker T who took her second bullet of the series. Option, did enough to take NHC honours.
